solution_
Bringing the creative concept to life through the use of image output from real-time engines to a live LED wall in combination with camera tracking to produce final-pixel imagery, completely in camera, represents the state of the art for virtual production. We used two cameras in order to transition quickly between setups and even a lens on the ice. Real time rendering enabled immediate feedback that allowed the team to test ideas and make decisions in the moment.
With 3D artist Parker Littleton of Joyride we created 10 different backgrounds for the LED wall, including a 3D “Frozen LA River”. We used the architecture of the 1990s as inspiration for the 6th street bridge. The Frozen LA River was developed using Unreal Engine for real-time rendering and camera motion tracking on the LED wall. In addition to the wall, the UE assets were used in 3D animations for other videos.
